Joan Vos will be director of choir for the Sunday 9:30 a.m. Mass.
Joan has dedicated her life to working for the church in music ministry and liturgy for over 40 years. Her journey in ministry began at St. Mel Parish in Woodland Hills in 1976, and led her to studies at the University of Notre Dame and a Masters in Liturgical Music. From there she has worked in the dioceses of Vermont, New York City, Toronto and Wichita. Since 1992, she has worked in various parishes and schools throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and most recently as the Associate Director for Formation for the Office for Worship. Joan was also a regular contributor to Angelus magazine (formerly The Tidings) on various liturgy topics.
Joan is the mother of three grown daughters. She is very happy to be continuing her ministry here at St. Genevieve's and would like to thank the parish community for their support.
We warmly welcome Joan to our St. Genevieve community!

Marcos Mendoza
Marcos Mendoza will be the director of choir for the 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Masses.
Marcos began his education here at St, Genevieve, where he attended the elementary school and high school for twelve years--a lifer!
Marcos was a member of the Boys' Choir and later, Men's Choir. He was also a member of what once was the famous Bells Choir of St. Genevieve (1973). In 1988, at the retirement of long-time choir director, Mr. Frank Denis, Marcos took over the helm for two years.
After graduating from California State University, Northridge, with a degree in music (1985), Marcos taught music and was Band Director at Bishop Alemany High Schoool in Mission Hills for twenty-two years. At the same time, he was music minister at St. Bridget of Swedem Parish in Van Nuys as well as music teacher at St. Bridget School--a position he held for twenty-six years. He had taught music in other parishes in the Valley including Our Lady of Lourdes in Northridge, St. Catherine of Sienna in Reseda, and Mary Immacualte in Pacoima. Marcos notes with pride that he was chosen to be part of the music ministry when Pope John II visited Los Angeles in 1987. Currently, he teaches fulltime at St. John Baptist de la Salle School in Granada Hills.
Marcos says that he has come full circle in his music ministry journey as he becomes coordinator of music where he began at St. Genevieve, "where I learned to love the liturgy and now hope to contribute to future growth" of our own music ministry.
